Tips for Hiring and Using a Bike Box

Firstly, do book in advance, our bike boxes are in demand, especially during peak cycling season during the spring and summer months.

Do check that the bike box you would like to hire supports the frame of your bike. Further information about the sizes of our bike boxes and frame size(s) can be found on our website.

Our bike boxes are available to hire from £5 per day. We do request a refundable £100 security deposit per box which can be paid on the day of collection. The deposit is returned to you as soon as possible after the bike box has been returned, usually within 24 hours, or if paid in cash, when the bike box is returned to us.

If you’re flying (our boxes have been to the US and even Australia) flying we do recommend that TSA locks are used to secure the Trico Sports Iron Case. We can hire you a couple of locks, please enquire at the time of booking. Please also check with the airline when booking your flights and ensure that the box has been added to your luggage allowance (this will be cheaper than having to pay an excess charge at the airport).

We cover all of the Cotswolds, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Gloucester and Herefordshire. Collection of the box(es) is from Blockley in Gloucestershire GL56 9DZ.  We can deliver but please check your delivery distance as we do charge per mile for delivery and collection.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Bicycle and Cycle Travel Insurance

When travelling with your bicycle either at home or overseas for a holiday, an event or training it is essential to get the right  insurance for you and your bike, for medical expenses, repatriation, personal liability, trip cancellation etc. Most travel insurance exclude anything other than leisure riding and will usually exclude all cycling if that is the primary reason for your trip.

We can recommend a number of insurers for you to contact for a quote including; Yellow Jersey, Pedal Cover, SportsCover Direct and Bikmo. For more information click on the links.

Changes to the Highway Code, Jan 2022

Cotswold Bike Box Hire welcomes the changes to the Highway Code that came into effect from 29 January 2022.

There is now a new “road user hierarchy” meaning drivers of vehicles (such as cars, vans, buses and lorries) must be extra careful around those lower in the hierarchy, such as cyclists and pedestrians:

  • New Rule H1 ensures that those road users who can do the greatest harm have the greatest responsibility to reduce the danger or threat they may pose to other road users. The objective of the hierarchy is not to give priority to pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders in every situation but rather to ensure a more mutually respectful and considerate culture of safe and effective road use that benefits all users.
  • New Rule H2 to create clearer and stronger priorities for pedestrians, particularly at junctions, and clarify where pedestrians have right of way.
  • New Rule H3 which places a requirement on drivers to give priority to cyclists when they are turning into or out of a junction, or changing direction or lane, just as they would to other motor vehicles.
Cyclists, horse riders and horse drawn vehicles likewise have a responsibility to reduce danger to pedestrians. Cyclists should give way to pedestrians on shared use cycle tracks. Only pedestrians may use the pavement. This includes people using wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Pedestrians may use any part of the road and use cycle tracks as well as the pavement, unless there are signs prohibiting pedestrians.

Cyclists New Highway Code 2022

Motorists should not cut across cyclists going ahead when turning into or out of a junction or changing direction or lane, This applies whether cyclists are using a cycle lane or cycle track, or riding ahead on the road.
